The Role of Sheriffs in Deflection and Pre-Arrest Diversion
Between May and September 2023, CHJ will be holding five grantee cohort focus area calls on the five critical elements of deflection, a framework developed by CHJ (https://www.cossapresources.org/Content/Documents/Articles/CHJ_TASC_Cri…). Each call will focus on one element and will feature 2-3 practitioners in the field discussing how their program implements the specific critical element.
CHJ Office Hours that will take place every 3rd Friday of the month. These Office Hours are meant for sites to come and ask any questions or concerns that they may have. There will be members of the CHJ team, with appearances from various subject matter experts, present for the duration of the call to assist with any topics/questions that are brought up. Any site can simply join throughout the hour to speak with the CHJ team.
Grantee Franklin County Sheriff's Office in Massachusetts contacted COSSUP for TTA. The request detailed the need for in-person support to hold a 1-2 day meeting with members of their CONNECT deflection team. They wanted to convene the group to create shared agreements to address the complex intersection of law enforcement, child welfare, and peer recovery in our post-opioid overdose response. Prior to an onsite visit, CHJ conducted 15 one-hour interviews with 20 individuals from the Franklin County/North Quabbin CONNECT deflection team.
