In Late January of 2015, APA received a formal request for assistance regarding the possibility of APA providing the City of St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office (here after SLCAO) in St, Louis, Missouri with training and technical assistance to assist them in implementing an intelligence based prosecution model and office wide community prosecution program as well as consultation on data integration and information sharing. Following its receipt, APA worked with that office to develop an agenda to meet their requested needs and settle on some dates for the visit.

The Basic Crime Prevention Course is a three-day course designed for those who work in the law enforcement and crime prevention arena. It provides an introduction to opportunity based crime prevention. The training will prepare participants to understand and deliver basic crime prevention services when they return to their home community. Participants will learn about the development of crime prevention and understand the various types of crime prevention and which techniques are best.

The Exploring School Safety Strategies Course is a three-day course designed for those who work in the law enforcement and school administration arena. It provides a comprehensive approach to enhancing school safety and security. Participants will learn how to improve transportation, signage, and reduce fear for school safety. They will learn how to conduct a security safety survey and rely on all participants’ expertise to make recommendations to enhance school safety and comfort of students and staff.

A three-hour presentation was developed for college staff and students on specific actions that can be taken in the event of an active shooter. The presentation expounds on the concepts explained in the Homeland Security’s “Run, Hide, and Fight” video. The instruction includes several practical exercises that are intended to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to better survive and protect others from an active shooter.
