NW3C plans to send three staff (Jeff Lybarger, Glen Gainer, and Michelle Kreps) to attend the 2024 National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) Winter Legislative and Technology Conference. They will run an exhibit at conference, attend NSA seminars, and participate in meetings with BJA, COPS, IADLEST and other committees.

The Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR) Senior Manager for the SLATT team provided a SLATT Program overview at an IACP workshop facilitated by the BJA senior program advisor. The presentation, titled, Small, Rural, and Tribal Agencies: How Do I Work “Free” Into My Budget, was attended by approximately 50 IACP members.

Members of the SLATT team attended the Association of State Criminal Investigative Agencies (ASCIA) Fall Conference, hosted on October 14 – 17, 2023, in San Diego, California. The purpose of SLATT attendance was to build threat mitigation capacity through specialized training that reinforces community partnerships and constitutional policing as core components of this activity. SLATT resource cards were available to attendees at the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, and the Regional Information Sharing Systems display booths.

The Lane County, OR Sheriff’s Office, a micrograntee, requested support to send one deputy to the Cellebrite digital evidence forensic investigator certification training. A few months ago, Lane County’s trained investigator retired. Until now, they’ve been relying on their partner agencies to use the software on their behalf, which has worked well since Lane County is sharing the software access with neighboring agencies. However, they’d like to bring the capacity back in-house to decrease processing times.

The RVCRI team supported one individual from the Crawford County, WI Sheriff's Office and Tremonton-Garland, UT Police Department to attend the two-week FLETC Sexual Assault Investigators Training Program from November 27 - December 8.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is hosting a Violent Crime Reduction Summit, Partnerships for Safer Communities, on December 11–13, 2023, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The summit aims to bring together partners from across communities working collaboratively to address violent crime. The summit will convene local leadership and federal partners from Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) and National Public Safety Partnership (PSP) sites—approximately 1,500 attendees—to examine and enhance public safety and violence reduction strategies.
