The Lane County, OR Sheriff’s Office, a micrograntee, requested support to send one deputy to the Cellebrite digital evidence forensic investigator certification training. A few months ago, Lane County’s trained investigator retired. Until now, they’ve been relying on their partner agencies to use the software on their behalf, which has worked well since Lane County is sharing the software access with neighboring agencies. However, they’d like to bring the capacity back in-house to decrease processing times. Having deputies in their own agency trained in the use of Cellebrite will allow Lane County to more quickly access evidence and begin the work on backlogged devices. They are trying to re-establish staffing of a full-time digital forensic investigator. To do so, they must send the investigator to this training. By training/funding their own digital forensic investigator, the burden on the investigators who are currently trying to fill this role would be lifted. This would be beneficial to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office and its partner agencies.
The training to be certified on the software is incredibly expensive - $4,200 per person. The bi-annual recertification training is much more manageable at $310 per individual. Lane County is aware that they must maintain and fund the refresher training. Lane County is hoping to send two deputies to the training and is requesting support for one deputy. They are trying to send two, so they do not find themselves in this predicament again. The RVCRI team will support one deputy's attendance at this training.
