Shawano requested scholarship travel support for two people to attend the 2024 Professionalizing Law Enforcement Community Engagement Training (PLECET) Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The conference is being held May 2 – 5. This training will help bolster their community engagement efforts as it relates to drug-related crime by building even stronger relationships with community members. Shawano will pay for the training registration fee, but is asking for travel support.

The event serves as an opportunity for COSSUP grantees to further the goals of the Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Use Program to support effective local, state, and tribal responses to illicit substance use in order to reduce overdose deaths, promote public safety, and support access to treatment and recovery services in the criminal justice system.

Our theme is "Hiding in Plain Sight: Recovering the erased stories of our ancestors in the United States and the Caribbean". Our 44th conference will highlight methods of genealogy research and explore the history of ancestors in the United States and the Caribbean. This will give persons an opportunity to learn how to research their ancestors and to identify their stories in and beyond enslavement, to highlight Reconstruction and beyond in the United States and pre and post emancipation in the Caribbean.

Sponsor grantees to attend conference in Birmingham, AL. This year, 2023, the City of Birmingham commemorates sixty years since the Birmingham campaign for civil and human rights. As a part of the commemorative events, The Historic Bethel Baptist Church Community Restoration Fund of Birmingham, Alabama, is pleased to announce its conference on individual and community healing. What happened here in 1963 changed not only the city but inspired similar movements for human and civil rights across the nation and around the world.
