In June, CSG Justice Center staff traveled to Oregon once to discuss the Behavioral Health Justice Reinvestment recommendations that are reflected in SB 973, as well as what implementation could involve. In addition to these site visits, CSG Justice Center staff continued to be available to state champions as the legislature considered SB 973 and held calls regarding implementation planning. In late June, SB 973 was passed by the legislature and is expected to be signed by Governor Kate Brown soon.

The 4th Annual National SAKI Grantees Meeting was hosted June 6–7 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. Each SAKI grantee was able to send up to three representatives to this year’s meeting. In addition, all non-SAKI and non-DANY jurisdictions interested in sexual assault response reform were each invited to send two individuals to the meeting. This year, abstracts submitted by SAKI sites for peer-to-peer presentation sessions were implemented for the first time.

Kids Camp took place from June 28th – 30th in Bradford Woods, IN. Forty-seven Comfort Zone Campers, ages 7-17, and 8 Camp Hal campers, ages 4-6. Camp provides bereavement services to children who have suffered the loss of a close family member by providing camp programs that seek to build the child’s confidence and help him/her develop positive coping skills for use in daily life. On Friday, escorted by fire trucks and the Indiana Patriot Guard Riders Motorcycle Group, all campers and their parents arrived at the Bradford Woods Camp. They attended an evening orientation and enjoyed dinner.

In March, CSG Justice Center staff traveled to Oregon twice to brief legislators on the proposed Behavioral Health Justice Reinvestment legislation related to the final recommendations from the steering committee. CSG Justice Center staff also attended hearings in both the House and Senate Judiciary Committees when the proposed legislation was discussed.
