This workshop provided information to Tribal Community Supervision and treatment court professionals on the services available through APPA. This workshop covered information contained on the Tribal Community Corrections Support Center website including a brief history of APPA work in Tribal Community Corrections, available training and technical assistance services, example program documents, and publications. The Tribal Grants Manager also introduced the Tribal Justice Probation System Review Guidebook, Risk-Need-Responsivity publication, and the Reentry Toolkit.

Build foundational skills through this comprehensive and interactive training academy. Examine traditional, evidence-based, victim-centered and trauma informed approaches to community supervision. Practice techniques in mock interviews, scenarios and team exercises. Explore the benefits of restorative practices and cultural resources.

The Partners will refine the curriculum for the proposed TPA based on BJA guidance and will solicit feedback from past TPA participants. The Partners will announce the academy dates electronically to probation, police, courts, and tribal leaders. A BJA approved participation application will be sent and reviewed with weight given to applicants who have one to three years of relevant experience; who have not previously attended the academy; who are from diverse tribes; who work within existing probation departments; and who are seeking to implement evidence based practices.

I learned about the possibility of having BJA fund virtual training sessions for the youth in our residential centers. We are interested in working with CBO Game Changer. I learned about this opportunity from Sean Sheppard ( Seansheppard@gamechanger1.org ). Once we are approved for this training I will work with Mr. Sheppard to schedule the virtual training.

Developing Policies and Procedures to Support Tribal Probation and the Implementation of Best Practices. (Note: this could be a section within a regional or a standalone 2.5-3 day in-depth class)
This intensive training will provide the necessary framework for the development and or enhancement of Tribal Probation Policies and Procedures which will include: Reviewing codes for guidance, Analyzing current needs and practices, structuring and developing policies and procedures and garnering by-in from leadership.
