Tribal Probation Academy – August 2021 – December 2021
Course Description (50 hours direct instruction and an additional 50 hours of course work and participation):
Build foundational skills through this comprehensive and interactive virtual training academy. This 18-week course will examine traditional, evidence-based, victim-centered and trauma informed approaches to community supervision. Course work is designed to support application of techniques and case management concepts in the development of core supervisory skills.
Upon completion of this academy, participants will be able to:
• Employ effective communication techniques with probationers to improve safety and reduce incarceration – Introductory Level
• Identify substance abuse, commonly used drugs, and the effects of drugs on behavior - Introductory Level
• Apply practical knowledge when supervising high risk offender populations such as probationers with mental illness, domestic violence offenses, sex offenses, or alcohol and substance abuse. - Introductory Level
• Apply motivational interviewing practices to promote behavior change. Introductory Level

- The organizational and/or community needs specific to the request for TTA services.
- The benefits or anticipated outcomes from the receipt of TTA services.
By submitting this application to BJA NTTAC, I understand that upon approval of this application for TTA, the requestor agrees to keep BJA NTTAC informed of any circumstances that may impact the delivery of the TTA, including changes in the date of the event, event cancellation, or difficulties communicating with the assigned TTA provider.
