Advanced Practices in Tribal Community Corrections
This intensive training will build on the introductions presented at the Tribal Probation Academy. Advanced Best Practices in Corrections will provide 4 days of intensive skill building training and practical experience in Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Informed Interactions and Drug Recognition and Identification. Motivational Interviewing will provide a deeper understanding of how to use MI to move clients from ambivalence to action stages of change with respect to their risk/needs areas and individualize responsivity goals tailored to the individual client. We will practice advanced interactions and MI strategies that engage the client in the assessment, case planning and change process. Participants will build confidence in their MI skills, including working with resistive clients. The Trauma Informed Interaction day will provide skills and techniques to recognize and differentiate behaviors, identifying trauma responses. We will also discuss effective tools to address trauma and treatment options proven to be effective in helping clients with trauma integrate their trauma making it more manageable.
