Dane County, Wisconsin is home to the world cass University of Wisconsin-Madison, home of the state capitol and commonly voted on our nation's best of's lists. Unfortunately, in the criminal justice system we are rank as United States most disparite county between African-American and white populations. Dane county is piloting a new Community Restorative Court aimed at the 17-25 year old population. r

My police unit is part of a much larger collaborative effort called the Kansas City No Violence Alliance. Kansascitynova.org... We are currently working to implement a Byrne Grant project in a very violent corridor of our city's urban core. Four officers and myself will be working in this corridor with community based organizations to implement a focused deterrence policing strategy and to apply CPTED principles to a commercial corridor revitalization effort.

The agency is requesting to receive professional training in the topic area of fair and impartial policing/ cultural awareness, and or community policing. A topic that could best cover those three areas if possible, and have the course repeated on two days so a larger number of FMPD personnel would be able to attend. Other Law Enforcement agencies in Southwest Florida would also be invited to attend the training.

The Niagara Falls Police Department as stipulated by the "Order on Consent" by the NYS Attorney Generals Office must create a training protocal on cultural diversity, which shall include training on interactions with persons of different races, ethnicities, religious groups, sexual orientations, persons of the opposite sex and persons with disabilities. Also stipulated the NFPD shall create a training protocal on its policy for conduct during citizen encounters, including supervisory responsibility to ensure adherence to the policy by subordinates.

The Durham Police are the recipients of a CHP grant that will allow a focus upon Problem Oriented Policing and off-campus student housing. Durham is the host community for the University of New Hampshire and its 14,000 students. With 5,600 on-campus beds there are significant rental properties throughout the community. Many are in appropriate locations while others are mixed with residential family homes where the lifestyle of students and families often conflicts creating significant calls for service.

We have an increase in domestic violence calls for service. We also have an increase in burglaries and vandalism. I believe the underlying problem to all of the increase in crime is due to the increase in drug use/abuse.

Our New Orleans Task Force has been updated with new members (for the new prostitution diversion program that we will be implementing soon under the Racial Justice Improvement Project). The following critical members have been added: Henry Dean from New Orleans Police Department, Mark Burton and Ginger Miller from the DA’s Office and Charlene Larche-Mason from the City Attorney’s Office.
