This training program will utilize the Bring Your Own Case (BYOC) model to provide needed training to capital defense teams, as well as provide the basis for ongoing technical assistance. The combined defense team will work with a faculty of leading experts on issues directly relevant to the defenders' training needs. The agenda is developed in accordance with the BYOC model and tailored to the specific training needs of the trainees. The program will be preceded by a single-day train-the-trainers program for program facilitators.

JSS, in collaboration with BJA experts, Arizona State University and Netstring, built a step-by- step, TurboTax(tm) type system that allows small, rural and tribal agencies to create a policy by answering a series of questions.

Priority Area 1: Convene oversight committee to develop and administer IMPACTS program.

Update: CSG Justice Center staff continued preparing a Phase II close-out report to be shared with the GRC, OHA, CJC, and legislative stakeholders that summarizes implementation progress to date and provides recommendations for program sustainability.
Priority Area 2: Equitably include tribal governments in IMPACTS program planning and administration.

Analysis Area 1: Examine state and county criminal justice investments over time to assess how the state’s spending aligns with public safety priorities.
Update: In January, CSG Justice Center staff began workshopping policy recommendations with the Delivery System Standards and Funding Policy Working Group, including alternative funding models. Ultimately, CSG Justice Center staff, with support from the working group, proposed the following policy recommendation that addresses analysis area 1:

On April 27 and 28, 2022, the project team held an in-person launch event with various stakeholders. The event was held in Los Angeles, CA and was hosted by the Los Angeles Police Department. Approximately 90 attendees came to the two-day event. The goal of the conference was to hear from various stakeholders in the field on how the Knowledge Lab could and should be used to address the current challenges in the field.

Over this reporting period, we are working on numerous configurations to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our central Salesforce database. This includes finalizing an automated integration between our new website software, Drupal, and Salesforce to ensure our website automatically reflects auditor contact data, building a robust mechanism for Field Training Program staff to track their post-FTP TTA activities, creating a mechanism to track audit assignments, and many other small changes to ensure the system remains efficient and effective.

In January, CSG Justice Center staff continued extensive planning, coordination, and communication internally, with project partners, and with members of the project’s national steering committee. CSG Justice Center staff worked with staff from BJA to plan and execute Safety and Justice Deserve Better Data: Justice Counts National Launch on January 26.
