In January, CSG Justice Center staff continued extensive planning, coordination, and communication internally, with project partners, and with members of the project’s national steering committee. CSG Justice Center staff worked with staff from BJA to plan and execute Safety and Justice Deserve Better Data: Justice Counts National Launch on January 26. This work included producing several videos as part of the #PeopleCount campaign, as well as prerecorded remarks from United States Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta, a presentation by BJA and CSG Justice Center staff, and a panel discussion involving four members of the Justice Counts National Steering Committee. Justice Counts project partners were provided with a media toolkit to use to promote the event across their professional channels both before and after the event. During the event, CSG Justice Center staff monitored and replied to questions and comments across multiple platforms, including social media. The #PeopleCount videos, as well as a recording of the entire event, will be available for viewing in early February. More than 1,000 people participated in the event, and follow-up communications are planned for all who registered for the event and for those who signed up via the Justice Counts website to receive regular email updates. In addition, CSG Justice Center staff worked with staff from Recidiviz to update the data on the data scan state pages and to finalize the scope of work for an amended contract that will include the work to be done in Phase 3 of the project. CSG Justice Center staff worked closely with project partner Measures for Justice (MFJ) to advance the process for finalizing Tier 1 metrics. Lastly, a new Senior Policy Analyst, Vibha Venkatesha, joined the Justice Counts team full time in January.
