The city of Detroit faces significant public safety challenges that include high rates of violent crime. A number of initiatives, including a number of federally-supported initiatives, are in place. The Detroit VRN team’s impression is that the impact of these initiatives could be enhanced through greater coordination across efforts. Analytics, technology support, and training may assist efforts to coordinate across initiatives and create greater synergies within specific agencies and across the network of local, state and federal criminal justice agencies and stakeholders.

Currently our efforts have focused on data that shows historical trends, comparisons between timeframes, and documents previous months efforts. We would like to start using data more proactively, in real time, to make decisions about deployment and to help identify strategies and tactics that are customized to high-crime neighborhoods.

I would like to request on behalf of my Department - the San Mateo Police Department - help with developing and improving our crime analysis program. I have heard that you have a two phased approach in which you can send an expert to our department to do an onsite review of crime analysis program and make recommendations for improvement. The 2nd phase of the approach is the implementation of some of the recommendations based on how intensive they will be. Hopefully I'm correct in my understanding and you can help me with this.
