Due to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center - RVCRI partnership, Det.Lt. Heidi Cartwright was able to attend the January 2024 DHS Leadership Academy, which is a two-week long leadership course for individuals in a command authority position or could assume command authority. The training includes segments on leadership challenges, adaptive leadership, leading through a crisis, navigating the seven c's of leadership, wellness in law enforcement, servant leadership, and a capstone group project.

PRC staff attended the National Partnership for Juvenile Services conference September 3-6, 2023 to introduce our agency and services to members of the NPJS. In 2004, the Council for Educators of At-Risk and Delinquent Youth (CEARDY), the Juvenile Justice Trainers Association (JJTA), the National Association for Juvenile Correctional Agencies (NAJCA), and the National Juvenile Detention Association (NJDA) merged their respective membership organizations under one operational structure. The resulting organization is the National Partnership for Juvenile Services (NJPS).

This course presented the state’s substance use data repository as a tool to monitor and report the impact of substance use upon resources across justice, health, and human service stakeholders. This course examined how this tool was developed as a solution to creating a comprehensive story about the opioid epidemic using previously siloed data from various state agencies and partners. This course discussed how DDRC was built on this statewide initiative and provided an overview of DDRC.

On June 25, 2023, Wellness Court Specialists Kristina Pacheco and Angie Juarez-Monger attended the Center for Justice Innovation's State Coordinator's Meeting. Discussion on how states are interacting with tribes occurred. Through this meeting, TLPI was able to identify potential states to focus efforts on that would promote tribal - state collaboration for Tribal Healing to Wellness Courts and State Drug Courts who may have tribal member participants.

Members of the SLATT team attended and participated in the National Fusion Center Association (NFCA) Annual Training Event, hosted on April 24 – 27, 2023 in Alexandria, Virginia. More than 700 individuals attended the event. SLATT team members engaged with attendees and provided SLATT resources at the BJA information table for the duration of the event.

Tribal Grants Manager Mark Dyea participated in a Panel discussion on working with special populations as part of the New Mexico Court Officer Basic Training in Santa Fe, NM. In addition to Mr. Dyea’s discussion on working with the Native American population in a reentry setting there were other panelist that discussed working with Veterans, LGBTQI, and DWI Offenders.

The focus of the session was to share practical steps to cultivate work between tribes and state agencies. This panel included both Tribal and State representatives who discussed strategies that center on collaborations between states and Tribes to provide alternatives to incarceration for justice involved youth. The panelists shared examples of state laws, agreements, and practices that enable them to identify youth who are Tribal members and work with Tribes to provide services and supports to detained and incarcerated youth.

RPD is developing an officer wellness unit and a six-hour block of training focused on trauma. IIR reached out to RPD. After a series of phone calls IIR provided access to virtual training opportunities and web site resources. After reviewing the SAFLEO website and completing some online training for perspective, RPD indicated an interest in any specific materials/resources that may help in its effort.
