Members of the SLATT team attended and participated in the National Fusion Center Association (NFCA) Annual Training Event, hosted on April 24 – 27, 2023 in Alexandria, Virginia. More than 700 individuals attended the event. In addition to engaging with attendees and providing SLATT resources at the BJA information table, SLATT team members, subject-matter experts, and the BJA senior policy advisor provided the following presentation:
On April 26, 2023, the BJA senior policy advisor, a member of the SLATT team, and a subject-matter expert, delivered a lesson from the DISRUPT training course, titled Violent Extremism at Protest Style Events. The lesson was delivered as a breakout session and included an extensive overview of prominent US-based protest events conducted by anti-government and anti-authority violent extremists, with a focus on militia activities. Approximately 70 people attended the session and were provided with SLATT resources via a QR code. Of the attendees who provided feedback, 100 percent were satisfied with the course and agreed or strongly agreed that the information was useful and relevant to their jobs, their knowledge increased, they would apply what they had learned, and they would recommend the course to others.
Attendees commented that the presenters had “very good firsthand knowledge of the extremist militia groups,” that the presentation was “complete,” and that it provided opportunities to “engage executive leadership for better decision-making.”
