After reviewing new statistics on LGBT people in confinement, this webinar will provide case studies of one county probation department and one state criminal justice system that have begun collecting data on sexual orientation and gender identity. Participants will leave with specific questions that they can add to their data collection and case management systems.

Conference hosted by the International Association of Chiefs of Police. The PRC was invited to address the attendees on PREA to further promote PREA and gain buy-in for implementation at the local law enforcement level.

NCJTC staff will provide training on suicide prevention and reduction of risk factors: alcohol and substance abuse, lethal means restriction and mental health/distress. Presentation will be culturally sensitive and provide education and discussion on historical and intergenerational trauma. The first training will include the Ho-Chunk Family Services planning committee. The second training will include a session at their youth conference.

Native American youth are impacted by unique and challenging threats that affect their physical and emotional development and well-being. Often tribal communities do not have the same access to the necessary resources for addressing these threats. The Crimes Against Children in Indian Country (CACIC) Conference was formed in response to the often unmet needs of Native youth. The advisory/planning committee is made up of representatives from a wide range of tribal and non-tribal law enforcement, government, and social service agencies.

NCCJD will be participating in a Vera Institute of Justice Roundtable August 5-6, 2014 in Columbus, Ohio. Vera’s Center on Victimization and Safety is working in partnership with the Ms. Foundation to create a blueprint for a national strategy to end sexual abuse of children with disabilities and Deaf children. NCCJD staff is providing expertise for this national project as materials are developed.
