Initial LISC staff site visit completed 6/7/16. SME Larisa Ortiz (commercial corridor revitalization) completed her site visit on June 27th, followed by presentation on July 20th to the Youngstown team with a final report and recommendations for next steps. LISC staff encouraged Youngstown team to attend Smart Policing Initiative (SPI) workshop on August 3-4. The delegation will include two YPD officers, research partner, coordinator and lifelong resident.

Key objectives of the site visit include meetings with key initiative partners including YNDC, YPD and the YSU research team to discuss progress to date. Additional meetings will include discussions with neighborhood canvassers, recently hired by YNDC to assist in neighborhood/resident level data collection. Plans for a forthcoming Communications Small grant application from YNDC will also be discussed. The site visit will also be a key opportunity to engage YPD and its newly formed Community Policing Unit.

Austin's BCJI grant is due to end in September of 2016. The TA team held a visit with Austin to assess implementation ascertain what support would be needed in the area of partnership and sustainability. A recent report by the Austin research team showed a rise in the percentage of respondents saying the Rundberg community was a safe place to live from just 41% in 2014 to over 75% in 2015. This change in perception can be attributed to the work of the Austin BCJI and other community partners.

LISC sponsored the second session of SafeGrowth training in San Antonio (June 1 & 2). Training included representatives from the Baton Rouge, Kansas City and San Antonio sites.

The primary goals of the site visit were: 1) to assess the current status of the Madison BCJI program, 2) assess the progress of the research, use of the research, and integration of the research partner into the team, 3) assess the degree of integration of the Madison Police Department and 4) assess the strengths of the core advisory team members.

The Chesterfield County/City of Colonial Heights Community Corrections Services requested technical assistance for mapping the residences of clients receiving public assistance and/or mental health services from the local government to ultimately improve efficiency in the delivery of such services. Stewart Bruce was selected to fulfill this request and provided onsite evaluation services of existing resources, met with agency personnel and other community stakeholders, and developed a comprehensive final report with recommendations for the initiative. The Newark Mentoring Movement has provided and continues to provide mentor training focusing on the basics of mentoring to topics discussing the mentoring of young men of color. Along, with training Newark Mentoring Movement facilitates the MBK Newark Mentoring Collective.The collective is a group of 15 mentoring organization who have coalesced around a series of goal to move the mentoring community forward. My Brother's Keeper Newark has identified three focus areas:

The Advanced Crime Prevention Course is a three-day course designed for those who work in the law enforcement and crime prevention arena. It provides a comprehensive approach to “opportunity reduction” based crime prevention. Participants will learn how to prepare, understand, and deliver information on advanced topics in crime prevention to their communities. They will learn about various developments and emerging trends in the crime prevention field and understand the types of crime prevention techniques available to address these issues.
