The Lansing MI Police Dept. is requesting training for their officers/dispatchers and some other civilian staff/department heads. The two 2-day Blue Courage Courses are intended to train and educate the command staff of the department. Blue Courage is a synergistic blend of education, principles, practices, skills, and tools that go beyond the classroom environment to foster a culture of leadership, character, nobility and service. Blue Courage focuses on both training to develop officer safety skills and education to enhance mindfulness and deepen awareness, intention and self-control.

The intent of the overview is to introduce, garner interest, and gain support for the Blue Courage training scheduled to come to New York as part of their MOU. Through this keynote presentation, participants experience a condensed version of our 2 day Academy addressing a variety of real world, applicable, and cutting edge learning that will enhance personal and organizational performance. Topics addressed include resiliency, respect, culture, pattern interruption, and the Nobility of policing.

The Chicago, Illinois Police Department requested assistance from the University of Chicago Crime Lab to build and test an Early Intervention System (EIS). The Crime Lab developed and tested an EIS model to detect poor police conduct and identify superior policy activity, and developed recommendations for EIS implementation. The Crime Lab also hosted two meetings with subject matter experts to share knowledge of officer wellness and training, and develop a process for learning about EIS best practices. The Crime Lab will deliver a recommendations report to BJA NTTAC by August 30, 2017.

Daisy Santillan from the Washington County, Oregon Sheriff's Office requested information on implicit bias training resources. BJA NTTAC provided the requestor with a list of providers that offer implicit bias training.
