This webinar wasfor the FY2015 Second Chance Act grantees focused on adult offenders with co-occurring substance use and mental disorders. During the webinar, BJA staff provided an overview of the Second Chance Act, requirements of the co-occurring disorders grant, and grant management. NRRC staff provided an overview of the training, technical assistance, research, tools, and Planning & Implementation (P&I) Guide related to the grant.

Two Center staff members presented "Responses to Underage Drinking" with Dr. Ken Winters, Director of the Center for Adolescent Substance Abuse Research. The presentation was addressed to judges, court staff, administrators, law enforcement, probation, prosecutors, defense attorneys, social services, tribal HTWC Staff

Technical assistance with the implementation of The Drug Market Intervention evidence-based model. This engagement consisted of one day of training, and one day of individual follow-up meetings with stakeholder agencies. Training participants consisted of mainly Camden County Police Department officers (and other ranks), other Camden County personnel, as well as members from the Newark (NJ) VRN site, Wilmington (DE) VRN site, and West Memphis (AR) VRN site.

This course provides a review of the most commonly abused prescription drugs. Street names, methods of abuse and current street prices will be discussed. Each attendee will receive an abused pharmaceutical card as a reference.

Understand the problems surrounding misuse, abuse, and diversion of controlled substances
Recognize state law and medical board regulations may be more restrictive than federal law and regulations
Recognize current trends of prescription drug diversion

This presentation is designed to address the complex needs of substance exposed newborns to include managing of symptoms, perinatal health issues of the mother, and coordination of multiple service systems needed to promote successful outcomes.

The primary focus of this presentation will be new and emerging drug trends across the country. The overall number of substances being abused today has noticeably increased over the past few years. Much of this increase can be attributed to the influx of synthetic drugs as well as newer forms of some existing drugs. Substances known as “Wax”, “Dabs”, “N-Bomb”, “Molly” and others are relatively new to the drug scene and continue to increase in popularity.

Provide a wide range of office based assistance, including response to inquires, networking referrals, preparation of brief background memos, extended assistance, etc. This is an ongoing project.
