During this reporting period, IIR staff members provided complete logistical support to the following meetings and events:
2024 National Forum on Overdose Fatality Review—March 5–6, 2024. The forum included 21 sessions and 54 panelists. There were 452 confirmed registrations and 320 people attended the event. Attendees represented COSSUP grantees, federal partners, and interested stakeholders. The event was viewed as a huge success and received very positive reviews from participants.
Grantees will review training and practical information that provided best practices on responses to substance use disorders and overdose prevention that prioritize prevention, treatment, recovery, and harm reduction.
The meeting will discuss the public health frameworks for case review, the critical role of different team members, and the ethics of case review, along with covering the nuts and bolts of an effective Overdose Fatality Review Program.

The event serves as an opportunity for COSSUP grantees to further the goals of the Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Use Program to support effective local, state, and tribal responses to illicit substance use in order to reduce overdose deaths, promote public safety, and support access to treatment and recovery services in the criminal justice system.
This virtual convening, hosted by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) through COSSAP, will focus on tackling one of the most critical challenges of our time: putting an end to America’s opioid, stimulant, and substance misuse. The virtual setting will offer the feel of an in-person event, allowing participants to connect directly with colleagues to hear from federal experts, discuss relevant issues and trends, share ideas, exchange resources, and gain new skills to improve programs.
Worked with the National Advocacy Center to deliver online workshop. This makes up for the FY2018 and FY2019 workshops that were cancelled.
