Our department, the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office is in the process restructuring our advancement/promotion process and requirements. In addition to the tenure, mandated training, and expectable proficiency evaluations, Deputies will also be required to have approved Leadership training modules before being able to advance in position or rank. With that said, just recently we have used the Carolinas Institute for Community Policing for leadership training and they provided us with a great training experience.

We are requesting assistance from NTTAC to have a population analysis conducted of our ten county jails focused specifically on those inmates who are incarcerated pending adjudication of their cases. This is the first of three planned steps to bring about statewide bail reform in New Hampshire. This jail population analysis will give us a better idea of who we have in our jails pretrial, what is keeping them there (i.e., money bond amounts), how long they stay, and whether they need to be there.

BJA will commission a White Paper on risk assessment use in state and local sentencing decision making. The final report will be a critical tool to expand BJA's knowledge of how risk information is used, and may impact future BJA funding priorities and strategies.

BJA will identify a provider to facilitate JRI peer-to-peer technical assistance events. Similar events were held in February 2015 to share ideas, resources, and tools from sites involved in JRI efforts. This TA will expand those events to more sites involved in JRI activity.

The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices is requesting funding support for staff time needed to plan, organize, and host a two-day institute for governors’ criminal justice policy advisors and directors of state administering agencies.

Our request is for an assessment of our crime analysis capabilities and assistance in improving our ability to can leverage as well as improve our analysis. We are interested in receiving training on social media network analysis to identify connections between crime victims as well as suspects as a means of predictive analysis on violent crime.
