Cardinal Innovations Heathcare in North Carolina requested assistance in providing information on people with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD) to their partners in Crisis Intervention Teams (local law enforcement, magistrates and courts). The Serving Safely Initiative is connecting the site with project subject matter experts.

The Hampton Roads Regional Jail in Virginia was interested in information about funding to build their capacity to address inmates with mental illnesses. The Serving Safely Initiative presented three funding opportunities with resources to build their capacity. In addition, we referred them to CSG to determine fit as an eighth Stepping Up site.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office is requesting assistance in the development of their new Mental Health Division created as a result of California?s recently passed pre-trial mental health diversion law. The office is looking also for training for attorneys to prepare them for implementation of the law. The project provided them with resources for their efforts.

A Sergeant in Carrollton, Texas Police Department is interested in providing advanced CIT training to her officers as a way to maintain their skills in responding to people with mental illnesses. The Sergeant is looking for information on Crisis Intervention Team training resources in her area. The Serving Safely team connected the site to a CIT coordinator in nearby Dallas, Texas to learn about their training, and provided relevant resources and expert consult during the virtual technical assistance contact.

The Chief of the Ashburnham, Massachusetts Police Department is interested in ways to improve his agency?s response to citizens experiencing a mental health crisis. The agency signed the IACP One Mind Pledge and is looking for information on accessing or developing Crisis Intervention Team training. The Serving Safely team connected them to a statewide Coordinator in Massachusetts to learn about area training, and provided relevant resources and expert consult during the virtual technical assistance contacts.

The Chief of the Manteno, Illinois Police Department is interested in ways to improve his agency?s response to citizens experiencing a mental health crisis. The agency would like to introduce case officers who could follow-up with people they encounter frequently to connect them to resources. The Assistant Chief of the Weslaco TX Police Department is interested in ways to improve his agency?s response to citizens who are experiencing a mental health crisis. The state of Texas recently enacted legislation that requires all law enforcement officers in the state to receive Crisis Intervention Team training before they can be certified or recertified. The agency is currently sending officers to a nearby CIT training class, but the seats are limited. The Assistant Chief is looking for information on additional Crisis Intervention Team training resources.

The Chief and Threat Assessment Manager of the Tufts University Police Department in Medford, Massachusetts are interested in ways to improve their agency?s response to students who are experiencing a mental health crisis. The agency has signed the IACP One Mind Pledge and is looking for information on Crisis Intervention Team training resources that are specific to the campus environment. The site is interested in learning from one of the Law Enforcement/Mental Health Learning Site and were given the link to submit their request to the Council of State Governments.

The Sergeant in charge of the mental health unit of the Madison, WI Police Department is experiencing changes in leadership in the department and calls to better coordinate department approaches. This police department is one of the Law Enforcement/Mental Health Learning Sites. While Madison PD has a robust police response to people with mental illnesses, they were interested in ways to move their department forward, expand on responses, enhance consistency, use best practices, and use data to inform their next steps.
