In this program, Training & Technical Assistance is provided by partner coaches with The Moss Group, Just Detention International, and Activating Change. Employees of the partner agencies act as coaches to facilities and agencies who have received BJA grants in FY 19, FY 20, FY 21, and FY 22 for Implementing the PREA standards, protecting inmates, and safeguarding communities. Coaches provide guidance on developing an implementation guide for the use of awarded funds, budget approval, and technical assistance related to the PREA standards and their implementation.

CSG Justice Center staff conducted a field-wide webinar. Building and maintaining family relationships is an essential part of a person's reentry, yet family members often experience trauma, financial difficulties, and other challenges due to incarceration. In this webinar, presenters will discuss strategies for supporting parents who are incarcerated and their families, including engaging children's caregivers in reentry planning and incorporating families' voices in program implementation.

CSG Justice Center staff conducted a half-day grantee summit for the Children of Incarcerated Parents grantees. The summit covered a range of topics and included speakers from Santa Maria Hostel, a panel with individuals with lived experience, and Virginia Department of Corrections on family engagement. Presenters focused on Building a Comprehensive Continuum of Care for Families in Recovery. While parenting is a focus, it is important not to forget about the recovery side of programming and how that impacts our parents.

During this interactive group learning session, Second Chance Act Addressing the Needs of Incarcerated Parents and Their Minor Children grantees will examine their own perceptions on advocacy and protection of children. They will also have the opportunity to clarify who defines child safety and well-being and examine the role of visits in supporting parent and child relationships in the context of child protection. Participants will also examine the implications of building protections for children for correctional policy.

David D'Amora with The Council on State Governments Justice Center will present on core implementation and case planning topics. We will further explore risk factors, responses, and prioritizing services.

CSG Justice Center staff and consultants from the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys conducted a virtual site visit with FY20 J-JMHCP Maryland Office of Public Defender (OPD) grantee. During the first day of the virtual site visit, CSG Justice Center staff engaged the Maryland OPD team and partners in discussions on reviewing the goals of the J-JMHCP project and policies/procedures for collaborating with prosecutors to identify, refer and accept participants during the pilot phase.
