This training was delivered in collaboration with the Collaborative Reform Initiative Technical Assistance Center. The Take Action: Make the R.I.G.H.T. Choice and Intervene training is an eight-hour instructor-led course designed to teach, encourage, and empower law enforcement personnel to actively intervene when needed to prevent colleagues from committing policy or procedure mistakes or unprofessional, unethical, or criminal conduct. Officers will learn the powerful influence that every officer, regardless of rank, can have on a colleague’s conduct and behavior.

NPI allocated a portion of the remaining microgrant funding to support conference and event attendance. This training and event support will give many agencies access to events and trainings that they would not otherwise have access to in an effort to help further enhance their departments and agencies. NPI will support up to two individuals to attend this conference.

Five members of the Knoxville Police Department attended a 3-day site visit to Baltimore Police Department from October 24-26, 2023. During the visit, Knoxville learned about training, hiring, retention, workforce allocation, use of force review, policy writing, auditing, community engagement, and technology.

Seven members of the Minneapolis Police Department attended a 2-day site visit to the Albuquerque Police Department from July 24-25, 2023. During the visit, Minneapolis learned about consent decree management, internal affairs, auditing, officer wellness, community engagement, use of force review, and training.

To advance the mission of the Center, the JJSC held several listening sessions to gather input from jail staff and a broad range of stakeholders. These sessions provided insights into their experiences and perspectives on the essential needs and challenges for jails in maintaining a safe and secure corrections environment. The goal of these sessions was to learn about the current needs and challenges that jails face, as well as identify best practices that other jails in the country can utilize
