On February 9th Dr. Laura Wyckoff presented the work and vision for the Lab to the NPI Fellows. The NPI Fellows are current or former members of criminal justice organizations whose knowledge, experience, and skills help support and advance NPI's mission. The approximately 60 Fellows work on specific projects, represent NPI in meetings and conferences, and develop substantive thought pieces and resources to address the pressing issues facing policing. The Fellows were asked to bring the ideas of the Knowledge Lab to their agencies and the field.

The Cleveland Police Department has been in their consent decree for nine years now and they are working hard to reach compliance. They are looking for support specifically in the areas of search and seizure, use of force, and working with civilian oversight agencies. Cleveland is interested in learning from peer agencies such as the Albuquerque Police Department, and they are also interested in being connected with subject matter experts (SME) who can help guide them in their process towards achieving compliance.

NPI and the Knowledge Lab will send a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to Knoxville to collaborate with their leadership team for an in-person Use of Force Review Panel, conducting a thorough review of several recent instances of significant use of force.

However, even officers with the best intentions sometimes need moral courage, confidence, and the proper tools to intervene effectively, safely, and without repercussions.
