CSG Justice Center staff held a stakeholder listening session in partnership with BJA on the Clean Slate Clearinghouse and National Inventory of Collateral Consequences projects. During the meeting hosts and organizations in attendance reviewed the current resources, the history and functionality; trends in the field; how the CSG Justice Center can support the field and stakeholder organizations' work; and ended with a facilitated group discussion;

"Priority Area 1: Assist the three delivery systems with identifying strategies and developing comprehensive statewide supervision recommendations and definitions for community supervision.
Update: In November, CSG Justice Center staff traveled onsite to present working group recommendations to CSAC for case planning and a behavior response grid, which will support more equitable supervision strategies for community supervision. Recommendations were approved and will be sent to the MN DOC Commissioner for approval.

Following policy development conversations, CJI supported the Work Group in drafting a comprehensive, final report capturing the work of the Reentry Work Group. The report includes key data findings, research points, and the Work Group’s 26 recommendations for improving reentry outcomes in North Dakota.

CJI staff guided the Work Group through the policy development process as part of Phase I of JRI. The Work Group was divided into two focus areas for their policy discussions – the first group focusing on the “front-end” of the criminal justice system (practices including deflection, arrest, diversion, court processing, and sentencing), and the second focusing on the “back-end” of the criminal justice system (in-prison practices, release planning, community reentry support, housing, and healthcare).

CJI staff delivered the final data presentation ("Drivers #2") to the ND Reentry Study Work Group. Staff presented virtually on 7/30/24, sharing comprehensive information about community supervision related data trends, as well as data from the state’s Free Through Recovery (FTR) program.

CJI hosted a roundtable discussion in-person at the Good Road Recovery Center in Mandan on 7/17/24. Participants included Native individuals affiliated with North Dakota’s MHA tribal nation who have lived experienced with the justice system.
