This agency has primary responsibility for training rural defenders, both staff and and contract attorneys in Nevada. Planning is underway for a 1.5 day conference in Elko NV June 6 & 7 2024.
July- Dec. 2023: Creating a quarterly training program for staff focusing on training on digital evidence, police misconduct and motion litigation, defense of sexual assault crimes and trial skills training. Will be presenting in person at one of these programs as well as obtaining speakers for other sessions. Date is set and speakers confirmed for first program in March 2024.
July-Dec. 2023 Hawai’i Public Defender Training: NACDL is currently involved in planning a week long training for the Hawai’i Public Defender’s Office. Hawai’i shares the same challenges as many rural communities, isolation (in their case geographic) makes it very difficult for its lawyers to get access to national level training or be exposed to new innovations in the field.
On Sept. 2023, we received an application from the Ada County, Idaho PD office. they request subject matter expert assistance in implementing a training curriculum that will focus on attorneys with various levels of experience.
July-December 2023: On October 12, we received an applilcation seeking On-Demand TTA services. Specifically, they request subject matter expert assistance in designing and implementing a training curriculum for this newly created defense college. BJA has approved this application.
Started Recommendation research presentation for phased development of In-person - online course conversions for HCC. Proof of concept. Started Development Topics for PPT presentation on HCC intro to self-study conversion. Working in Articulate to develop test course with interactions and content. Working in Articulate to develop HCC test course with interactions and content. Built and tested a quiz and results slide inside video. Working to develop proof of concept course for online self-study HCC courses. Continued work on PPT presentation for HCC and Beta Prototype Test Course.
July-Dec. Application approved for NACDL Staff Attorney to assist in reviewing, evaluating, designing and implementing a training curriculum for approximately 60 defenders. Have met with the head of their office and working to develop training for their attorney staff. The office has very limited resources.
January-June 2024: Prior conviction impeachment webinar was held on June 27, 2024.
July-Dec.2023: On August 31, 2023, APA hosted a webinar on race-blind charging in YOLO County DA as a model policy and practice.

Ms. Pacheco provided a virtual training for the Arizona Association of Drug Court Professionals' Lunch & Learn Series.
CJI will conduct interviews to determine prosecutors' understanding, perception, and experience of the JRI process. That information will be used to increase prosecutor engagement in future JRI efforts. Pilot interviews will be conducted with two prosecutor offices. CJI and BJA will use the information gleaned from those interviews to discuss the possibility of additional study or other next steps to engage prosecutors in the JRI process.
