NACDL will send attorney and mitigation specialist subject matter experts to the Maricopa County Public Defender Capital Unit to train the entire office on DVO. The training will focus on trainees' existing cases and utilize the Bring-Your-Own-Case (BYOC) model to the extent feasible.

NACDL and its partners offer ongoing technical assistance to capital defense teams who attended Bring-Your-Own-Case (BYOC) programs or in-office training programs conducted under the Capital Case Litigation Initiative (CCLI). This technical assistance leverages topics covered during the BYOC programs, surfaces topics that are needed in future training programs, and helps NACDL and its partners track and monitor trainee teams’ case status.

This webinar is intended for justice system actors and others looking to learn about restorative justice principles and their relevant applications for judges. Current and former seated judges will share their experiences implementing restorative justice practices in their role and the effectiveness within the criminal legal system. Panelists will also share challenges and recommendations for system implementation.

The Center maintains a Court-Builders listserv that hosts 520 active subscribers and shares examples of promising practices, lessons learned, and timely news among the community court field. The listserv continues to be a valuable tool for peer-to-peer communication. From January through June 2023, users made 34 original posts (with many more posts in response) that included updated practices in the field, questions about current services that courts are offering, and support around common issues.

RHCJC coordinated and hosted a site visit for the Airway Heights community court, which included the following members: Judge Gerl, Community Court Judge; Luisa Constanza, Community Court Coordinator; Zach Myers, Public Defender; Susan Six, Prosecution Paralegal; Officer Adam Johnson, Community Resource Officer. The team learned about Red Hook's programming and observed court.
