LISC co-hosted a grantee orientation (the first cohort of sub-grantees) webinar with NPI and BJA on February 16th, 2023. As follow-up to the webinar, LISC TA leads began their initial round of introductory calls with sites. During these calls, LISC’s TTA model was outlined – focusing on authentic community engagement, adherence to evidence based practices, project management by a strong cross-sector partnership and examining revitalization opportunities to complement projects.

LISC Staff Matt Perkins and James Stark with subject matter expert Tom Wyatt provided training to Providence PD Officers and property owners on place-based problem solving methods and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) during a full day training.

The third and final session in the Connect and Protect Intercept 0 Community of Practice with Institute for Intergovernmental Research. The session focused on addressing the needs of youth who are at risk of justice involvement or currently involved in the juvenile justice system. The panelists discussed best practices for working with youth focusing on prevention and treatment for youth with behavioral health needs.

This is the second session in the Connect and Protect Intercept 1 Community of Practice facilitated by the National Policing Institute. During this session, grantees will: discuss the challenges and successes of integrating cross-system collaboration between behavioral health professionals and correctional facilities; provide an opportunity for grantees to learn from national experts; and bring peer sites together to foster collaboration, information sharing, and knowledge.

The third and final session in the Connect and Protect Intercept 1 Community of Practice facilitated by the National Policing Institute. During this session, grantees will: identify key tasks when getting started; learning how to identify and establish roles on scene; discuss information sharing and data collection across multiple agencies with various information sharing limits; hear from a site what coordination with other Emergency Responders looks like in practice.

In this session, participants will build awareness and action in the context of equity through exploring inequalities and injustice within society that contribute to their work; understanding how to lead with equity through consistency, reflection and shape shifting; and incorporating tools and strategies for centering equity in culture and operations. This session will consist of group discussions and hands-on exercises and activities that will help participants think of equity in terms of mission, leadership and culture.

Matt Perkins participated in a panel discussion "Rethinking Small Business Support" that provided the opportunity to discuss Safety & Justice's work and the RVCRI project. Follow-up resources provided to seminar attendees included the RVCRI grant application portal.
