Center Staff gave two back to back presentations at the Birmingham Municipal Court Summit, titled “PART 1: Planning a Justice System Program: Technical Assistance Best Practices to Achieve Your Goals” and “PART 2: Planning a Justice System Program: Operationalizing Technical Assistance Best Practices” at the Birmingham Municipal Court Conference.
Center staff attended the Washington State Association of Drug Court Professionals and Washington Association of Drug Courts Conference discussed how community courts work as problem solving courts and how practitioners can build issue focused programs that cater to specific community needs. I also gave practitioners some considerations on how to implement small changes to their current system.
Community Justice TTA Staff collaborated with the Center’s Tribal Justice team at the 2024 Tribal Healing to Wellness Court Implementation and Enhancement Trainings to discuss how to create a multi-track system and the different risk-need levels in tribal communities, specifically how community justice principles can be incorporated into healing to wellness courts
In partnership with the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys. This three-day multidisciplinary course will provide the knowledge and skills necessary for prosecutors to make charging decisions and prosecute homicide cases. Additionally, this course will provide practical exercises in the investigation and prosecution of a homicide and teamwork tips for investigators and victim advocates.
The conference program provides training for all government attorneys involved in prosecuting capital cases: including trial, appellate, post-conviction, and habeas prosecutors. It will also explore the Housing First, But Not Housing Only approach, which emphasizes the critical role of supportive services beyond housing to address the unique needs of people transitioning from incarceration. In addition, the session will provide practical insights into the successes and limitations of these models.
