The National Tribal Judicial Center (NTJC) at The National Judicial College (NJC) took the lead in locating a venue for the 2024 American Indian Justice Conference. We worked with BJA and other national partners to plan the sessions and logistics. We worked with the team to get the word out about the conference.

WORKSHOP # 2 - Incorporating Cultural and Traditional Practices to Improve Reentry Outcomes. This workshop provided information on reentry programs that have incorporated traditional healing practices into their reentyr programs, discussed the benefits of developing a cultural component to reentry programs, identified additional traditional and cultural practices to be included in reentry programs, and discussed the ability to adapt traditional practices to meet the needs of other tribal reentry programs.

WORKSHOP #1 - How Can We Protect Our Sanity? Dealing with Vicarious Trauma, Compassion Fatigue, and Burnout. This workshop presented information to assist attendees in identifying the differences between burnout, vicarious trauma, and compassion fatigue. Help the audience understand the causes of this conditions. teach the differences between stress and burnout and provide the audience with tips and information on how to recognize the warning signs, identify the causes and consequences, and preventing and treating these conditions.

WORKSHOP– Understanding Your Clients: A Discussion on Working with Native American Clients in a Reentry Program. This presentation is based on part 3 of the Reentry Toolkit developed as part of this funding opportunity. This workshop focused on engaging the client in the reentry program by providing information to enhance the attends’ knowledge and skill set to successfully engage clients in their reentry programs.

The shooting at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999, marked a unique flashpoint of change rarely seen in police response. 2024 This year, 2024, marks 25 years since the tragedy, and many of the lessons learned have been applied to mass violence events since. In this workshop, consultant and police psychologist Dr. John Nicoletti, who responded to the scene and supported recovery efforts, will be joined by the principal of Columbine High School at the time of the tragedy and a member of the SWAT team that made entry to the school.
