The NCJA CJP decided to create a board-targeted training based on comments and feedback we were seeing from SAAs and their staff at our other strategic planning trainings. We began the process of creating the curriculum in January by convening a group of NCJA staff members as well as two subject matter experts: Joe Thome (consultant who was a former SAA in CO), and Lori Pesci (consultant who works for the Summitt Co, OH CJCC).

In April, CSG Justice Center staff continued to socialize the guidelines and engage key partners in the field, provide technical assistance (TA) to selected states, develop and submit conference proposals, and further identify project next steps. Throughout the month, the team worked on opportunities to advance communication of the project, both externally and internally, and connect with those who submitted new TA requests.Â

"Analysis Area 1:Â Facilitate a cross-system data match between DHHS and county jails to identify the overlapping population of people who have behavioral health challenges who move through local criminal justice systems and identify high utilizers of both systems. CSG Justice Center staff will conduct an in-depth descriptive analysis of the matched Medicaid claims data to provide information on trends in services accessed in the community by people incarcerated in each participating jail.

"In March, CSG Justice Center staff continued to socialize the guidelines and engage key partners in the field, provide technical assistance (TA) to selected states, distribute materials for outreach strategies related to language for TA opportunities, and further identify project next steps. Throughout the month, the team worked on opportunities to advance communication of the project and outreach to provide TA.    The project team also submitted the updated marketing materials to BJA and received approval to commence the marketing strategy.

"Priority Area 1: Facilitate a Working Group to finalize and implement administrative policy and practice changes identified during the Phase I process.  Update: In February, CSG Justice Center staff met with the working group to review the new case plan format presented by Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) representatives from the master trainer group responsible for creating the new case plan model and training staff across DOC. The new case plan format is based on a coaching model and translates well with other agencies.
