This roundtable brought together law enforcement leaders, subject matter experts, and community stakeholders to discuss strategies and best practices for responding to mass violence incidents. The event focused on enhancing the safety and wellness of officers, first responders, and the community through peer-to-peer support and collaboration. American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) through a partnership with the Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR), in support of the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s Student, Teachers, and Officers Preventing (STOP) School Violence Program, hosted a webinar to educate juvenile probation officers, and other stakeholders, on their role in preventing and reducing violence in K-12 school populations.

The NCJA Center for Justice Planning and Data Center, in collaboration with Connecticut’s SAA Office (OPM) and their Statistical Analysis Center, is spearheading the development of the state’s 2026 strategic plan. This initiative includes a robust statewide survey designed to engage public safety and community-based organizations, including law enforcement, rural organizations, victim services, and violence prevention programs.

Center staff attended the Washington State Association of Drug Court Professionals and Washington Association of Drug Courts Conference discussed how community courts work as problem solving courts and how practitioners can build issue focused programs that cater to specific community needs. I also gave practitioners some considerations on how to implement small changes to their current system.
