Apply for the FY 2020 Upholding the Rule of Law and Preventing Wrongful Convictions Program

The Bureau of Justice Assistance is seeking applications for its Fiscal Year 2020 Upholding the Rule of Law and Preventing Wrongful Convictions (ROL/WCR) Program. To prioritize the integrity of the criminal justice system, the ROL/WCR program will support entities in reviewing wrongful conviction cases for individuals they represent who claim their innocence.

This conference showcases programs, research and technologies that help justice practitioners and decision makers in states, local communities and tribal nations address pressing public safety issues.

NCCJD Director, Leigh Ann Davis, was invited to participate in a work group that planned and presented at AAIDD's National Goals in Research, Practice and Policy for People with I/DD within the "Access to Justice" topic group. The meeting's outcomes resulted in two publications - an Issue Brief as well as an AAIDD journal article co-authored by Ms. Davis.

In October 2015, CSG Justice Center staff submitted a memorandum documenting the progress Pennsylvania made through JR implementation and technical assistance. With the submission of the memorandum, intensive technical assistance to support the implementation of Pennsylvania's 2012 justice reinvestment legislation has concluded. Pennsylvania continues to hold a contract with the CSG Justice Center to expend its BJA subaward grant.

This is the second of a two-part series on Reducing Racial and Ethnic Disparities in County Justice Systems. Racial and ethnic disparity (RED) refers to the unequal treatment of individuals of color in the criminal or juvenile justice systems, which is often represented in jail populations. This interactive virtual discussion will allow participants to ask questions of a national expert at the W. Haywood Burns Institute and county leaders to continue the dialogue on reducing racial and ethnic disparities.

With the submission of the memorandum, intensive technical assistance to support the implementation of Pennsylvania's 2012 justice reinvestment legislation has concluded. State leaders received this month a letter from BJA acknowledging the state's achievements and conclusion of Phase II TA.
