The National Center for School Safety provides one-on-one technical assistance to STOP grantees. This Intensive TA has been offered since January 2021, and is provided to select agencies requiring more assistance. Nevada Department of Education was one of these agencies. TA Specialists have been in contact with Nevada Department of Education since 1/20/2022, with their intake meeting occurring on 2/4/2022. There have been 2 follow-up meetings, and one occurred during this reporting period.

TA Specialists have been in contact with Moreno Valley Unified School District since 3/2/2022, with their intake meeting occurring on 7/27/2022. There have been 4 additional follow-up meetings and 1 occurred during the current reporting period.

TA Specialists have been in contact with Michigan State University - Extension since 3/2/2022, with their intake meeting occurring on 3/15/2022. There have been 11 additional follow-up meetings and 6 occurred during the current reporting period.

The percentage of adolescents who experience persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness has been on an upward trend over the last decade. In order to address these mental health challenges, increased support from schools, communities, and families is needed.

This webinar features panelists from Sandy Hook Promise sharing ideas for how educators might discuss mental health with students. Tips and additional resources are also provided.

The Students, Teachers, Officers Preventing (STOP) School Violence Grant Program is designed to improve K-12 school security by providing students and teachers with the tools they need to recognize, respond quickly to, and help prevent acts of violence and ensure a positive school climate. The STOP School Violence Act of 2018 gave the Department of Justice the authority to provide awards to grantees to implement evidence-based school safety programs and technology.
