The Center provided support for the Missouri Association of Drug Court Professionals to engage the expert presentation services of Carl M. Dawson, M.S., LLC, who conducted the importance of Medication-Assisted Treatment in drug courts, and Ben Cort of the Center for Addiction Recovery and Rehabilitation, who spoke on discussing the legalization of marijuana and marijuana trends following legalization at the 2016 MADCP Annual Conference.

The Center for Court Innovation is supported by BJA to help states assess the impact of changes in criminal sentencing guidelines. In California, the Center will provide technical support to assess the impact of sentencing reforms on drug courts and recommend strategies for adapting to a changing legal environment that has reduced the severity of and punishment for certain drug offenses resulting from the enactment of the Proposition 47 The Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act.

The Center frequently supports state and regional drug court trainings by providing expert presenters and facilitators. In September 2015, the Center contracted with Dr. Ken Robinson to deliver a presentation on Moral Reconation Therapy and Dr. Josua Lee to deliver presentation on medication-assisted treatment in drug courts.

The Center provided support for the Missouri Office of the State Court Administrator to support their statewide enhancement grant for a statewide implementation of the RANT risk needs tool. Training sessions were held on May 19 and June 11, 2015 to give supplemental training to assessors in the implementation of the RANT.

The Center provided support for the Missouri Association of Drug Court Professionals to engage the expert presentation services of Raul Almazar, MA, RN, who conducted two sessions on trauma, and Magistrate Albert Zweig, who spoke on his perspective as a drug court participant and later as a drug court presiding magistrate at the 2014 MADCP Annual Conference.

The Center provided support for the Michigan Association of Drug Court Professionals to engage the expert presentation services of Phil O’Dwyer to conduct two sessions on co-occurring disorders, and Michael Fox, on alternatives to opiates and benzodiazepines for treatment of pain and “prescription drug abuse in the Adult Drug Court at the 2014 MADCP Annual Conference. The Center also engaged the expert facilitation services of Dennis Blender, Ph.D., to facilitate the strategic planning sessions of the MADCP board retreat on September 17-19, 2014, in Petoskey, MI.

In June 2014, the Center contracted with Yvonne Segars, Esq. and Michael Loeffler, Esq. to conduct a full-day training session with justice stakeholders in Massachusetts. Participants included the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Chief Justice Paula Carey, Trial Court Administrator Harry Spence, the Statewide Enhancement Grant Steering Committee, agency heads for the Office of the State's Attorney and Public Defender, and assigned counsel from drug court throughout the state.
