TTA to help Suffolk County, MA implement the Road to Recovery Program
A TTA program to help Columbus City, OH plan and implement a diversion program for their dual-diagnosis (substance abuse and mental illness) population. Because of the eminent exhaustion of grant funds, uncertainty about whether supplemental grant funding would occur, delays occurring on the part of some of the sites, and delays in getting them designated, engagement of the Wave 2 sites was much more limited in scope.
Due to the recent school shooting in our Congressional District and increased interest and need for funding from BJA, we were hoping to have a representative from the Bureau of Justice Assistance who could give a 15-20 minute presentation on available grant funding and opportunities specifically addressing school safety measures at each of these events. We will be inviting superintendents and local county officials from all counties within our district to attend.
The Department of Corrections has numerous training needs and desires, however, the department has prioritized our top six training needs that we would like to request and pursue should the NTTAC be able to assist us. We are looking for on-site opportunities that will enhance the opportunity for corrections, medical, and mental health staff to able to break away from the day to day operations and focus on the training being provided by having on-site classroom opportunities.
We would like to request the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys to provide our office with a training on the use of social media tools for criminal investigation and prosecution.
The Socorro, Texas Police Department's request has been referred to IIR for fulfillment under IIR's SLATT Regional Trainings BJA NTTAC engagement. It is anticipated that one or more representatives from the Socorro PD will be supported to attend a forthcoming SLATT regional workshop in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area in September 2018.
The Socorro, Texas Police Department requested training related to intelligence gathering methods for first responders, crime analysis, anti-terrorism, and infrastructure protection. The request was referred to the Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR), who will be the primary TTA provider for hosting 4 regional SLATT trainings in late 2018, including one session in the DFW metro area of Texas.
The NRTAC was approached by the Philadelphia Police Department to conduct a homicide unit assessment. The NRTAC team conducted initial outreach, received crime statistics and closure rates, but was instructed by BJA to refer the request to PERF.
