At the request of BJA, a member of the SLATT team participated in the National Fusion Center Association Annual Training Event in April 2022 in Alexandria, Virginia. The team member attended the Director’s Day meeting on April 11 and discussed the SLATT Program with several attendees.

At the request of BJA, a member of the SLATT team participated in the National Fusion Center Association Annual Training Event in April 2022 in Alexandria, Virginia. The team member provided a presentation at the morning plenary session on April 14, which was attended by approximately 800 participants.

The SLATT Advisory Board met virtually on January 19, 2022, with all six board members in attendance. During the meeting, board members were provided with an update on the SLATT Program, to include an introduction to new IIR/SLATT team members; a review of the newly developed SLATT Program Overview slick sheet; a status on course updates and new curricula; and SLATT publications and webinars currently under development. Program partners, START and MCCA, provided the board members with updates related to their support of the SLATT Program.

Understanding of Characteristics and Motivations of U.S. Hate Crime Offenders: On June 23, 2022, the SLATT team, with support from the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, Hate Crimes Prevention Collaboration Committee, hosted a webinar focused on hate crimes. Changing Landscape of Terrorism and Violent Extremism: On May 3, 2022, the SLATT team hosted a webinar focused on terrorism and violent extremism. START Director, William Braniff, facilitated the webinar as the guest speaker and provided an overview of the threat landscape, noting that violent extremism motivations and ideologies change over time, interact with the information environment in new and different ways, and often generate violence utilizing a variety of weapons, tactics, and targets.

The SLATT team delivered a SLATT 2022 webinars on February 23. The webinar provided the audience with a thorough overview of the SLATT Program, to include training, technical assistance, and resources available to SLTT law enforcement agencies. The presentation detailed SLATT’s role-based training courses, discussed upcoming webinars, and highlighted the numerous resources on the SLATT website. The SLATT 2022 webinar also included a brief terrorism threat briefing to characterize the type of information and training content available in the SLATT Program.
