From January to June, the ten Law Enforcement Learning Sites conducted 18 site visits. These visits, plus trainings, presentations, phone calls and emails, reached over 1,296 public safety personnel across 275 agencies.

CSG Justice Center staff were invited to join the National Association of Counties in providing a presentation on the Stepping Up initiative to SEARCH's membership as the national consortium of justice information and statistics. This presentation introduced the initiative and focused on information-sharing challenges and strategies for counties participating in the Stepping Up initiative. It also included examples of how different states have supported counties in their work by clarifying legal frameworks for behavioral health information privacy.

On June 6, 2019, CSG Justice Center hosted a webinar on “Innovative Programming for Veterans in the Criminal Justice System”. Veterans who are incarcerated have unique needs for services, which often include behavioral health treatment. In response, some correctional facilities have developed programming tailored for veterans in their facilities and have curated partnerships with justice programs in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affair’s Veterans Health Administration to better serve them.

On May 16, 2019, CSG Justice Center hosted a webinar focused on "Responding to the 2019 Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program Solicitation". In this webinar, representatives from BJA and CSG Justice Center reviewed the FY2019 JMHCP application process. Panelists included Maria Fryer, Policy Advisor for Substance Abuse and Mental Health, BJA and Sarah Wurzburg, Deputy Program Director, Behavioral Health, CSG Justice Center.

On June 12, 2019, the learning community’s fourth session on "Data Collection and Analysis" was held. This session featured the National Police Foundation (NPF) who helped grantees understand the purpose and importance of data collection, determine what data should be collected, assess their current practices and capacity for data collection, understand how to present data to stakeholders, and identify barriers to data collection and ways to begin or improve data collection.

The third learning community session, "Practical Approaches to Lawful Information Sharing", was hosted by CSG Justice Center on April 10, 2019. This session focused on how information can be legally and appropriately shared among PMHC partners. The webinar featured Detective Dempsey from the Los Angeles Police Department who spoke about developing policies, procedures, and other strategies to facilitate information sharing. Time was also included for FY18 JMHCP Category 2 grantees to ask questions of each other and the expert presenter.

On March 6, 2019, the second session in the Learning Community webinar series for FY18 JMHCP Category 2 Law Enforcement grantees was held. This session focused on strategic planning processes.

CSG Justice Center staff delivered a training session on screening and assessment to inform eligibility and suitability decisions for mental health diversion. This training included both a presentation and facilitated discussion of hypothetical diversion applicants.

At the request of the BJA JMHCP leadership team, CSG JC TA provider and additional staff accompanied the?BJA team for a tour of the?Riker's Island Jail Complex, including observing the program areas for the FY16 JMHCP NYC DOC grant project. The group met at the NYC DOC headquarters and then traveled onto Riker's Island for a tour of the jail, and to have discussions with the grantee team.
