NCJA is supporting BJA in convening the State Administering Agencies, Governors’ Criminal Justice Policy Advisors, state corrections officials, and representatives from 10 Public Safety Partnership (PSP) sites (formerly known as Violence Reduction Network (VRN) sites). The meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 2 in Long Beach, CA. About 70 people are expected to attend.

Baton Rouge, Denver, Langley Park, Minneapolis (Little Earth), Madison, and Meridian BCJI sites attended the Smart Suite Fellows Academy in July 2017. Jason Cooper attended as well and hosted a conversation between sites.

Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) partners with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) to provide a range of training and technical assistance services to all BCJI grantees. The technical assistance LISC provides is organized around several main themes that are critical to the BCJI model. (1) Use data and research to guide program strategy (2) Engage community members in shaping crime prevention and revitalization efforts (3) Tackle problems from multiple angles through cross-sector partnerships (4) Integrate crime control efforts with revitalization strategies

SAAs conduct strategic planning, administer federal and state grants, and evaluate program effectiveness. In total, SAAs manage over $1.2 billion annually in federal grants, including the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant, Violence Against Women Act STOP, Residential Substance Abuse Treatment, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act, and Victims of Crime Act funds.

State Agency Administrators (SAA) and Governors’ Criminal Justice Policy Advisors (CJPAs) joined together in Charleston, South Carolina on December 14-15, 2017 for the Institute for State Criminal Justice and Public Safety Executives, hosted by NCJA and the National Governor’s Association (NGA). Representatives from 38 states and territories registered for the event which featured a robust agenda of high priority topics, networking opportunities and discussions.
