State leaders in Nevada requested technical assistance to understand the impact of COVID-19 on their state's criminal justice system, particularly their prison population as well as the implementation of AB 236. To fulfill this request, CJI conducted a quantitative and qualitative assessment to determine how the changed practices made in response to COVID-19 has altered the criminal justice system.
CJI staff supported the Criminal Justice Reinvestment Working Group (CJRWG) in hosting two roundtable discussions with Nebraskans who have been directly impacted by the criminal justice system, as well as those who provide care or services to directly impacted persons. The first discussion took place at the Heartland Workforce Solutions Center in Omaha, and the second took place virtually over Zoom.
