Due to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center - RVCRI partnership, Lt. Alex VanderWoude was able to attend the August 2024 DHS Leadership Academy, which is a two-week long leadership course for individuals in a command authority position or could assume command authority. The training includes segments on leadership challenges, adaptive leadership, leading through a crisis, navigating the seven c's of leadership, wellness in law enforcement, servant leadership, and a capstone group project.

During this reporting period, IIR staff members provided complete logistical support to the following meetings and events:

2024 National Forum on Overdose Fatality Review—March 5–6, 2024. The forum included 21 sessions and 54 panelists. There were 452 confirmed registrations and 320 people attended the event. Attendees represented COSSUP grantees, federal partners, and interested stakeholders. The event was viewed as a huge success and received very positive reviews from participants.

Grantees will review training and practical information that provided best practices on responses to substance use disorders and overdose prevention that prioritize prevention, treatment, recovery, and harm reduction.

The meeting will discuss the public health frameworks for case review, the critical role of different team members, and the ethics of case review, along with covering the nuts and bolts of an effective Overdose Fatality Review Program.
