Provide subject matter expertise and consultation to understand the nature of the MPD’s needs and provide ideas and suggestions for how to address those needs.
Provide subject matter expertise and consultation on implementing these ideas and suggestions through resources and training.
Identify and facilitate learning from other agencies and jurisdictions on specific needs so MPD may improve their own practices.
Provide guidance on how to best utilize existing grant funds and how to identify and apply for new grants.

In 1995, C.O.P.S. began offering the highly-acclaimed trainings called “Traumas of Law Enforcement” to prepare law enforcement agencies to provide counseling and peer support following line-of-duty deaths and other law enforcement tragedies such as disability and suicide. An extensive curriculum on death notification, handling a line-of-duty death, law enforcement suicide, the emotionally affected officer, and the disabled officer are all taught at these trainings. In 2019, we began making peer support and counseling referrals available to the officers attending the training.

During this final session of the 2022 Leadership Academy, participants continued to focus on executive leadership through group discussions and hands-on activities related to change management and succession planning, communication, and enabling innovation. Participants engaged in discussions related to managing generational differences in the workplace. The session allowed participants to reflect on their Leadership Academy experience, and create a plan of action for how to implement and disseminate what was learned. This section was facilitated by Nell Todd and Jane Wiseman.

On March 24, the Center featured a presentation from Meghan Wheeler, director of standards and conference programing, on AllRise’s new medical practitioner training, created in partnership with American Society of Addiction Medicine. There were a total of 26 coordinators in attendance.

SCI Greene is a maximum-security prison with a population of 1,683 males. SCI Greene is part of the state DOC’s pioneering MAT program offering oral and injectable buprenorphine (Sublocade). Clinical staff has found transitioning individuals from oral Suboxone to monthly injectable Sublocade effective for both medical and security staff, cost management, with limited adverse and many positive effects for MAT participants.
