Dr. Stephanie Covington, is an internationally recognized clinician, author, organizational consultant, and lecturer. She is a pioneer in the fields of addiction, trauma, and recovery. Covington will present on March 20, 2025. Course Description: Over the past twenty-five years, our recognition of trauma and its impact has increased dramatically, and we have added significantly to our understanding of justice-involved people. With this increased awareness, criminal justice professionals are considering what this means in their specific settings and becoming trauma informed and responsive.

Forensic Expert, Professor Charles Geyh will be presenting on February 11, 2025. As the title indicates Geyh will cover the following: Recognizing and Applying Core Principles of Judicial Ethics: Outlining a judge’s core obligations to act in a manner that promotes public confidence and avoids the appearance of impropriety; Avoiding ex parte Communications: Defining and explaining the prohibition of ex parte communications.

This roundtable brought together law enforcement leaders, subject matter experts, and community stakeholders to discuss strategies and best practices for responding to mass violence incidents. The event focused on enhancing the safety and wellness of officers, first responders, and the community through peer-to-peer support and collaboration. Key topics included effective communication with the media and community members, mental health support for victims and survivors, and coordination with local, state, and federal partners.
