Efforts to improve safety can often be hampered by individual decision-making that has been negatively influenced by organizational culture. Even officers who otherwise engage in safe behaviors may sometimes choose to overlook safety violations committed by their peers. A strong organizational safety culture, with an emphasis on peer-to-peer accountability, is critical to maximizing officer safety.
