In this session, participants will build awareness and action in the context of equity through exploring inequalities and injustice within society that contribute to their work; understanding how to lead with equity through consistency, reflection and shape shifting; and incorporating tools and strategies for centering equity in culture and operations. This session will consist of group discussions and hands-on exercises and activities that will help participants think of equity in terms of mission, leadership and culture.

The session included a brief introduction to the key components of equity, including level setting and shared language, and highlighted information gathered, lessons learned and state strategies identified during the pilot year of NCJA’s new Equity in Grant Administration and Strategic Planning Program.

In addition, Byrne JAG and VOCA administrators from Illinois, Colorado, Pennsylvania and Iowa discussed their work to incorporate equity into their practices for administering federal funding.
