The Resilience Training Program was featured on two workshops at the 2022 IACP Annual Conference. The first, Integrating Wellness at the Academy and Entry Levels, highlighted information on how to teach cadets and entry-level officers to understand, identify, and learn healthy strategies for their physical, mental, financial, and family health to ensure their longevity from the time they start the academy to the time they retire.

It’s been about 10 months since the first cases of Covid-19 started showing up in US jails and prisons. Since that time, correctional facilities have been recognized as “hot-spots” for the spread of the virus with nearly 300,000 incarcerated and detained people becoming infected with the virus. There have also been close to 70,000 cases of Covid-19 among correctional workers with over 100 deaths.

Agencies identified representatives to attend the IACP annual conference in Chicago, Illinois, as a form of technical assistance and exposure to promising practices in officer safety and wellness as showcased in various workshops.

The International Association of Chiefs of Police hosted a group of twenty-eight law enforcement professionals for the piloted Law Enforcement Resilience Training Train-the-Trainer course. The participants that attended came from the three pilot sites, Norfolk, VA Police Department, South Dakota Highway Patrol and Lincoln, NE Police Department. The training took place over the course of four days at the IACP office in Alexandria, VA.
