The JFA Team and the Neighborhood Defender Services of Detroit will work towards increasing the use of experts and investigators by court-appointed counsel in Wayne County, Michigan.
Provide TTA Assistance in response to a request from the Arlington County Commonwealth Attorney's Office. TTA focus will center on improving criminal justice outcomes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing training and associated resources to Arlington criminal justice system and community stakeholders to increase awareness and understanding of the issues that lie at the intersection of disabilities and the criminal legal system.
JFA Team and the TTA Client will work towards addressing the underrepresentation of racial, ethnic, and other minorities on juries in St. Louis County, MN by conducting both qualitative and quantitative assessments of the jury system, developing a public education campaign for businesses and the general public on the importance of jury service, and educate court stakeholders on the importance of diverse jury pools.
Professor Andrea Roth of UC Berkley, Judge Annie O'Connell, DA Sherry Boston, and defense attorney Martin Sabelli discuss the impact of court closures and reopenings on the Sixth Amendment.
The goal of this research is to examine how this right is defined and the attorney-client relationship dynamics impact this right.
January-June 2023: This resource will be used to assist the Hampton Roads TTA.
July-December 2022: Will roll this resource into our Hampton Roads TTA and will be edited by resource counsel.
Criminal legal system stakeholders discuss racial equity and the Sixth Amendment. The goal is to identify potential areas for TTA, share resources, and frame issues.
Conduct a national survey of discovery practices in a searchable format that can be utilized by stakeholders and the general public to better understand the issue of access to witnesses and evidence.

The goal of this project is to examine the current state of academic research, identify gaps in that research, and emerging issues to help further general knowledge in the field, and to direct additional work that will be completed under this grant.
January to June 2022: Identified updates to the paper and waiting for changes to the citation styles. July-December 2022: Will consult with academic to see if additional changes are needed and create a webpage for distribution.
