Forensic Expert, Professor Charles Geyh will be presenting on February 11, 2025. As the title indicates Geyh will cover the following: Recognizing and Applying Core Principles of Judicial Ethics: Outlining a judge’s core obligations to act in a manner that promotes public confidence and avoids the appearance of impropriety; Avoiding ex parte Communications: Defining and explaining the prohibition of ex parte communications.

The webinar was delivered on December 19, 2024: The Supreme Court’s Eighth Amendment Jurisprudence: Impact on State Capital Cases. The Webinar was 60 minutes in length and Dean Erwin Chemerinsky spoke in his usual knowledgeable and eloquent way about how recent SCOTUS decisions from various Capital Cases indicate a distinct shift in how the Justices view how states should handle Capital Cases. The webinar was attended by 81 participants and was evaluated quite positively for the content delivered.

This summit will address key youth violence issues facing the criminal justice field. The three webinars were Understanding the Current Data and the Adolescent Brain, the Importance of Prevention and Early Intervention, and Reduction and Diversion Strategies. Examine steps to implement the Drug Endangered Children (DEC) Approach. Identify risks to drug endangered children and what all disciplines can look for when collecting appropriate evidence and information. Participate in trainer-led discussions and hands-on exercises that demonstrate how implementing collaboration enhances the likelihood of better outcomes for drug endangered children.

The American Indian Justice Conference offers tribes across the nation an opportunity to learn strategies to enhance tribal justice systems while providing essential information on topics such as court planning and development, diversionary court programs, traditional dispute resolution, justice system responses to alcohol and substance abuse, and emerging issues that are relevant to tribal justice system development.

This month's cohort call focused on a micro learning opportunity, facilitated discussion and peer exchange around the topic of mindfulness.

This month's cohort call is focused on the Good Road of Life model along with facilitated dicussion and peer exchange. The Good Road of Life is a trauma-informed, culture and resilience-based curriculum that utilizes peer support to overcome multiple risk factors including historical and everyday trauma. The model uses Dr. Clayton Small’s dissertation study completed at Gonzaga University that focused on wellness and healing for Native people.

Navajo Nation requested two back-to-back trainings due to the number of staff needing to be trained/all staff not being able to be out of the office at the same time.
