The American Bar Association requested technical assistance in updating the Ten Principles of a Public Defense Delivery System document. The request was denied by BJA and not fulfilled by BJA NTTAC.

The ABA seeks to update the Ten Principles of a Public Defense Delivery System. The ABA Ten Principles are the most influential statement on public defense today:

• States and nations build and improve defender systems using the Principles.

• The Principles guide U.S.D.O.J. public defense grant making.

• The United Nations modeled global standards on the Principles.

As Attorney General Eric Holder has said, the Ten Principles give “shape to our aspirations” and “quite literally set the standard, and developed a framework, for progress.”

Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants(OVSJG) is the State Administering Agency (SAA) for Byrne funds. OVSJG is represented at multijurisdictional workgroups and stakeholders have approached OVSJG for the following TTA request: (1) training for staff at two consolidated and newly developing DC agencies within the public safety and justice cluster - DC Office of Chief Medical Officer and DC Forensic Sciences. Both agencies are developing its infrastructure and are under new administration.

Technical assistance with the implementation of The Drug Market Intervention evidence-based model. This engagement consisted of one day of training, and one day of individual follow-up meetings with stakeholder agencies. Training participants consisted of mainly Camden County Police Department officers (and other ranks), other Camden County personnel, as well as members from the Newark (NJ) VRN site, Wilmington (DE) VRN site, and West Memphis (AR) VRN site.

The Technical and Training Assistance requested is to fund speakers/facilitators for the law enforcement and community tracks during the 2015 Police And Community Engagement (P.A.C.E.) Conference. This conference will be held in Aiken South Carolina and open to all law enforcement and community members and organizations in our region. The conference focus is De-escalation and Building Community Partnerships.
